Foster Care

While looking at the channel 4 news website, a storyline that really caught my attention read “Woman Gets Up To 25 Years For Torturing Adopted Twin Daughters”. This story is about a 30-year-old Warren woman who was convicted last month of two counts each of torture and first-degree child abuse to her adopted 8-year-old twin daughters. She stabbed the girls with glass and knives, beat them with cable wire, shoes and exercise equipment, bathed them in bleach water, burned them with cigarettes and dunked them in a toilet filled with urine. The children suffered bruises, welts and burns until they were taken from the home in November.

I chose to write about this article on the blog this week because children in foster homes are not safe. Foster children are taken away from their mothers to be place in homes that are worse then living with their families. There are too many children that are being placed in foster homes ending up being abused or killed. For example, a two-year-old boy was taken from his parent’s “dirty” home and was placed into foster care. While in the Foster home, the two-year-old was beaten to death. Child protection services are taking children out of their homes and placing them into homes that are even worse. Children are being hurt and dying because CPS is not watching out for these kids, they are only worried about placing these children in homes.

My question is, “Should this foster mother get more then 25 years in prison for torturing these kids”? In my opinion, I think this woman should get LIFE. Why? Because people who could torture little children for no reason should have their life taken away. A child is so innocent and does not deserve the damage being done to them. 25 years is not a far punishment for this crime. There are people who are in jail for life right now for a crime that is nothing compared to this one. I feel that what she did to these little girls, stabbing them with glass and knives, beating them with cable wire, shoes and exercise equipment, bathing them in bleach water, burning them with cigarettes and dunking their heads in a toilet filled with urine, should be considered attempted murder because she could have killed them. Children are not safe anymore.

Before CPS places a child in a foster home, they should do a thorough investigation of that person background. CPS workers should be on their jobs and check these children the way they need to be checked in order to save these children. If the CPS can’t place these children in safer homes, then they might as well leave them with their parents.
